Description
Known for its earthy finesse, the craft of terracotta has been the symbol of first attempt at craftsmanship. Panchmura, located 23 kilometers from the town of Bishnupur, Bengal, is one of the pioneers in producing terracotta handicrafts and is known as the ‘Terracotta Hub of Bengal'. Around seventy families who are a part of this small community still carry on the age-old tradition of hand-crafted pottery and are popularly referred to as ‘Kumbhakar’.
Made with efficiency and earnest care by the Bishnupur artisans, this particular terracotta artifact resembles Shri Ganesha. Lord Ganesh, the symbol of wisdom and fulfillment, is one of the predominant Hindu gods. The figurine could be used as home décor or worshipped daily.
